Doing Business in Jamaica 2018 | Crowe Horwath Jamaica Bulletin

Doing Business in Jamaica 2018 | Crowe Horwath Jamaica Bulletin:

The Doing Business project by the World Bank provides objective measures of business regulations and their enforcement across 190 economies and selected cities at the subnational and regional level.
The Doing Business project, launched in 2002, looks at domestic small and medium-size companies and measures the regulations applying to them through their life cycle.
By gathering and analyzing comprehensive quantitative data to compare business regulation environments across economies and over time, Doing Business encourages economies to compete towards more efficient regulation; offers measurable benchmarks for reform; and serves as a resource for academics, journalists, private sector researchers and others interested in the business climate of each economy.
Doing Business covers 11 areas of business regulation across 190 economies. Ten of these areas are:
  1. starting a business,
  2. dealing with construction permits,
  3. getting electricity,
  4. registering property,
  5. getting credit,
  6. protecting minority investors,
  7. paying taxes,
  8. trading across borders,
  9. enforcing contracts and
  10. resolving insolvency—are included in the
distance to frontier score and ease of
    doing business ranking.
Doing Business also measures features of labor market regulation, which is not included in these two measures. This Article focuses on doing Business in Jamaica 2018.
