Travel Restrictions to be Enforced for Tax Dodgers
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is advising that all persons planning to travel overseas and
who have outstanding tax liabilities are to contact the Department to have the matter resolved
or face a Stop Order being placed against them.
As part of its enhanced compliance programme, TAJ intends to issue Stop Orders on delinquent
taxpayers who have undisputed liabilities and have been contacted but remain delinquent. This will
prevent such persons from leaving the island until the outstanding matters have been cleared or
suitable written arrangements have been made to settle them. Taxpayers who are in doubt about their
status are encouraged to contact the TAJ’s Customer Care Centre at 1-888-TAXHELP (829-4357)
or the nearest Tax Office.
This tax collection activity forms part of the administration’s on-going debt collection strategy under
the National Compliance Plan, to counter the prevalence of tax evasion and wilful non-compliance.
Taxpayers are strongly encouraged to file their returns on time, pay their taxes in full, or seek to make
arrangements to pay at any tax office if unable to pay in full. Tax evasion is a criminal offence and the
tax authority will act with the full provisions of the law to recover any outstanding amounts from tax
dodgers.
