LUCEA, Hanover — There is no denying that Donette Reid, the senior income auditor at the Grand Palladium Jamaica and Lady Hamilton Resort and Spa in Point, Hanover, epitomises how to turn a challenge into a life changing opportunity.
Donette has for the past four years been using her "accidental" thrust into the field of accounting to quietly, but decisively make a name for herself at the Grand Palladium.

She is held in very high regard by the management of the resort, but more so by members of the accounting department where she is viewed as the consummate professional.
Born under the sign of Pisces, Donette's sojourn in the hospitality industry started shortly after graduating from Rusea's High School when she gained employment at Grand Lido Negril. There, she quickly rose to the position of Front Office Manager. Her journey from being a Front Office Manager to an Income Auditor started thereafter.
"While at Grand Lido, I encountered some challenges and as a result I was transferred to the Accounts Department as the Income Auditor. With very little knowledge of what my new tasks in the department entail, I made a conscious decision that instead of giving up I was going to give in...and surely, I did. I gave the position and the tasks that came with it my best shot, which surprised a number of people. There were others who believed in me and that gave me the drive to allow my abilities to shine even brighter," she said.
Donnette in giving thanks to her mentor, Chief Accountant at Grand Palladium, Chevon Pottinger added, "Chevon was actually my boss at Grand Lido when I was transferred to the Accounts department. She took me under her wings and nurtured me to the point where I was able to take on more tasks and not only complete then, but do so with time to spare. When the Grand Palladium opened in 2008 and Chevon took the decision to seek employment there, she encouraged me to make a similar move...and as they say the rest is history. I am happy I did!"
