A serious and structured way to tackle CARICOM issues | RJR News - Jamaican News Online: "If the government is serious about tackling the various issues being experienced in the Caribbean Community, CARICOM, then it must take steps that demonstrate that seriousness. The trade, travel and other issues that have arisen between Jamaica and Barbados , Jamaica and Guyana and Jamaica and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago are only some issues to be tackled.

Irrespective of those who think that preparing the country to face globalization is the paramount effort to be made, we believe that this ought not to be at the expense paying attention to incremental gain that can be made elsewhere – including regionally.

CARICOM presents an opportunity for incremental gains. In the last several years Jamaica’s Trade Balance with CARICOM has been negative and worsening. This has led to more goods manufactured in the region flowing into our market and less of our goods being able to compete effectively at home. At the same time less of our goods are making their way on to the shelves of shops across the region."
