Budget main highlight as Parliament opens today - News - JamaicaObserver.com: "HE delayed 2012/2013 parliamentary year will commence today with the State Opening of Parlaiment at Gordon House on Duke Street in downtown Kingston.
The pomp and pageantry of the State Opening, highlighted by the inspection of a Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Guard of Honour by Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen will be followed by the Throne Speech, which he will deliver to a meeting of the Senate, which will also include members of the House of Representatives.
However, the most anxiously awaited segment of the day's activities will be the tabling of the 2012/2013 Estimates of Expenditure (Budget), which will inform the nation on Government's projected spending for the current financial year, which began on April 1, 2012. The Estimates will be tabled by Minister of Finance and Planning Dr Peter Phillips.
The Standing Finance Committee of the House will meet to consider the Estimates from May 15 to 17. The Budget Debate begins on May 24 with Dr Phillips' presentation and will end on June 6."
