Employers now able to pay ALL monthly payroll deductions at Tax Offices
As it moves to improve the ease of doing business, the Tax Administration, in partnership with the National Housing Trust (NHT), National Insurance Scheme (NIS) and the HEART Trust NTA, with support from the FISCAL Services Ltd and the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), is now facilitating the payment of ALL monthly payroll deductions at Tax Offices. The new measure which takes effect January 1, 2011, means that from the monthly period January 1 – 31, for which payment is due by February 14, onwards, employers will be able to make ALL monthly statutory payments, including NHT at any Tax Office.
To simplify the process, a single Employer’s Monthly Statutory Remittance – Payroll Deductions (S01) declaration form has been designed and Gazetted, and is to be used by employers to remit the following payroll deductions:
The new single remittance form S01, which replaces several remittance forms and cards previously used for each payroll type, has been printed and is now available at Tax Offices and online at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm. The S01 form was finalised following a focus group session, involving business persons and a representative of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ).
In addition to being able to file the new declaration form and making a single payment at any of the twenty-nine Tax Offices located across the island, employers also have the option to use the online Tax Portal to make their monthly remittance of payroll deductions. To file online, persons must first complete a “one-time” registration process. This will allow them to file all major tax types, including GCT and Income Tax.
The Tax Administration is currently scheduling sensitisation sessions to brief employers on the use of the new form and update them on other phases of the amalgamation project to be introduced later this year. Once these sessions have been finalised the public will be advised. Additionally, arrangements may be made by business associations, etc. for the administration’s resource team to do presentations in respect of the introduction of the new consolidated service.
