29th Caribbean Conference of Accountants, Kingston Jamaica

The 2011 conference is being held under the banner, 'Third to First - Going the Distance'. The event will examine developmental strategies engaged by countries such as Singapore, as a model for the transformation of the region's economies from developing to First-World status, seeking to emulate the region's success in track and field in overcoming its challenges to achieve top ranking in the world.

The conference programme is being designed to attract the interest of professional accountants, student members and related professionals, such as information technology managers, human capital managers, venture capital managers, business valuators, internal auditors, forensic accountants and users of financial statements

Objectives

Track 1 - "Clearing the Hurdles" - The opportunities provided through the increased use of Information & Communication Technology within the profession. A look at developments, or advances, already realised through Information Technology applications, as well as the nature and consequence of attendant risks. A view will be taken from various perspectives: a look at future technologies and the potential to change the region; a study of associated risks, opportunities and the management of risks; and so on.

Track 2 - "Staying the Course" - This is the “Walking the Talk” session. In addition to focusing on the profession's contributions to economic recovery and development, we will look at how the profession can position recovery towards stability and prosperity on a sustainable basis within the region and beyond. The relevance and importance of international accounting and reporting standards will also be examined.

Track 3 - "Going for Gold" - This is the governance and performance improvement section of the Human Resources session. It complements 'winning', ' and out-performing' as implied by the next Track, - 'Breaking the Record'.

Track 4 - "Breaking the Record" - This session is the value and wealth creation segment of the conference. Within this session, we will also look at the importance of attracting investors to the region as a vital component of this last Track. Brand recognition and value are two other areas to be looked at and, finally, we will look at the region as a financial center - at a level beyond the imagination.

Presenters will be drawn from Jamaica, other Caribbean countries, Europe and North
